2010 Birdathon Report

This years Birdathon began well with pleasant weather as Roger Reese, Chris Lange and I met dawn at Muscatatuck Nature Preserve near Seymore.  We had a good morning with a nice list of birds, but by noon the weather turned very wet and we turned South to finish the day closer to home and dry clothes.

Between noon and 4 PM I added only three birds:  a soggy Bald Eagle,
Cormorant, and a Scaup from the Falls of the Ohio.  Then I too holed up with the rest of the birds.

When the rain let up in the evening I took the Butchertown Greenway path along Beargrass Creek near where I live in Louisville.  There I added a Northern Oriole, Black Vulture, and Barn Swallow, and a Red-shouldered Hawk.  Roger found a number of additional birds near his place adjacent to the Clark County State forest.  Whippoorwill, Chimney Swift, Blue Grosbeak, Wild Turkey, and Pileated Woodpecker.  So, despite the weather we found a respectable 69 species this year.

Thank you all for your support.  Consider joining us next year.
